چکیده

In this paper we will summarize some normative properties of possibility distributions. 1 Probability and Possibility In 2001 Carlsson and Fullér [1] introduced the possibilistic mean value, variance and covariance of fuzzy numbers. In 2003 Fullér and Majlender [4] introduced the notations of crisp weighted possibilistic mean value, variance and covariance of fuzzy numbers, which are consistent with the extension principle. In 2003 Carlsson, Fullér and Majlender [2] proved the possibilistic Cauchy-Schwartz inequality. Drawing heavily on [1, 2, 4, 5] we will summarize some normative properties of possibility distributions. Some normative properties of possibility distributions ∗

In 2001 Carlsson and Fullér introduced the possibilistic mean value, variance and covariance of fuzzy numbers. In 2002 Fullér and Majlender introduced the notations of crisp weighted possibilistic mean value, variance and covariance of fuzzy numbers, which are consistent with the extension principle. In this paper we will show some (normative) properties of possibility distributions.

An Update Semantics for Deontic Reasoning

In this paper we propose the deontic logic dus, that formalizes reasoning about prescriptive obligations in update semantics. In dus the deenition of logical validity of obligations is not based on truth values but on action dynamics. You know the meaning of a normative sentence if you know the change it brings about in the betterness relation of anyone who is subjected to the news conveyed by ...

Disagreement, Democracy, and the Goals of Science: Is a Normative Philosophy of Science Possible, If Ethical Inquiry Is Not?

W.V.Quine and Philip Kitcher have both developed naturalistic approaches to the philosophy of science which are partially based on a skeptical view about the possibility of rational inquiry into certain questions of value.Nonetheless, bothQuine and Kitcher do not wish to give up on the normative dimension of the philosophy of science. I argue that Kitcher’s recent argument against the specifica...

Reflections on Jennifer Saul's View of Successful Communication and Conversational Implicature

Saul (2002) criticizes a view on the relationship between speaker meaning and conversational implicatures according to which speaker meaning is exhaustively comprised of what is said and what is implicated. In the course of making her points, she develops a couple of new notions which she calls “utterer-implicature” and “audience-implicature”. She then makes certain claims about the relationshi...

Comparisons of heterogeneous distributions and dominance criteria

We are interested in the comparisons of standard-of-living across societies when observations of both income and household structure are available. We generalise the approach of Atkinson and Bourguignon (1987) to the case where the marginal distributions of needs can vary across the household populations under comparison. We assume that a sympathetic observer uses a utilitarian social welfare f...
